Hedon’s Christmas fundraising results : the Mayor’s Charity Fund received a welcome boost over the Christmas period, with money raised totalling £824.15. During the Christmas Lights switch on evening the amount raised was £464.80 - £366.80 from the tombola, £80 from the sale of mulled wine and £18 collected by the carol singers. The civic carol service brought a donation of £72 from Hedon Methodist church, and the Victorian Carol Evening in Hedon Town Hall raised £185 in ticket sales and a further £73.10 on the raffle. Other donations were also received, totalling £29.25 in all, and the Mayor of Hedon, Cllr. Mrs. Ann Suggit, wishes to extend her grateful thanks to everyone concerned.

Pantomime in Hedon : the post-Christmas festivities continue with “Aladdin,” a pantomime written by Ann Gwinnell and performed by the Hedon Drama Group. There will be several opportunities for you to see it : the first performance will be on Friday January 16th at 7.30 p.m. and there will be further shows on Saturday 17th at 2.00 p.m. and again at 7.30 p.m., and the following week on Friday 23rd January, also at 7.30 p.m. and on Saturday 24th at both 2.00 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. All performances will take place in the Alexandra Hall, and tickets cost £3.00 (or £2.50 for the usual concessions) available by telephoning Dave on 01482 89592 or Heather on 01964 622944, or you can just go along and pay at the door.

Story Time for pre-schoolers : Hedon library are continuing their “Storytime” every Tuesday between 2.30 p.m. and 3.15 p.m. The sessions are free so why not take this wonderful opportunity to feed your child’s imagination?

Classes for all the family! The South Holderness Adult Education Centre, which is based at South Holderness School and Technical College, Station Road, Preston, is offering a number of free “family fun” classes which are open to both adults and children : these are sessions on “Sculpture from junk,” “Marzipan Modelling” and Guitar playing. These classes all start on Wednesday 14th January and are to be held between 5.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m., making them ideal for parents to take their children along and learn together. On Saturdays, Spanish Conversation classes are being held (with separate classes for beginners and improvers) – if you are interested in any of these five-week classes and want more details or wish to book a place (or places!) please telephone 01482 897534 or 01964 612750 for further details.

The South Holderness Adult Education Centre are also offering “Yoga and Relaxation” classes which will be held in the Alexandra Hall, St. Augustine’s Gate, Hedon, between 9.30 a.m. and 11.00 a.m., starting on Friday 16th January. The classes are suitable for all abilities and all ages – again, telephone 01482 897534 for more information.

Yoga class in Hedon : if you can’t make a daytime class but would still like to take up (or continue) yoga there is another opportunity for you to take part : there will be an evening of Yoga offering an hour’s stretching, exercise and relaxation every Wednesday between 5.00 and 6.00 p.m. in the Alexandra Hall, with a new term starting on January 28th. This is suitable for all ages and both sexes. The classes cost £2.50 each, and all enquiries should be to Pam Wood on 01482 844432.

Holderness Lions : Holderness Lions have asked me to thank everyone for their support during 2003, and are looking forward to serving the Holderness community during 2004. Their next Farmer's Bingo is on Wednesday 14th January 2004 at The Haven Arms, Hedon, starting at 8.00 p.m. at a cost of £1.50 for two books of ten games per book. There is lots of good quality pork to be won and an enjoyable evening in store at the same time. Further details are available from Lion Eileen on 01482 890197.
Holderness Lions meet on the second Tuesday every month at The Haven Arms – the next meeting will be on 13th January.
