Week beginning November 24th 2003

Silks on show for Christmas : As the three Wise Men from the East came bearing gifts at Christmas, techniques from the East are used to create beautiful silk gifts now on show at Hedon Museum as part of its Christmas season. Ruth Brown, creator of Stone Creek Silks, is displaying a range of her beautiful work in the Upstairs Gallery. Silk paintings, wall hangings and scarves are part of the range of gifts on show, which demonstrates Batik and other Eastern techniques of working with this exotic fabric.
The Museum is very fortunate to get the chance to hold this display, as Ruth Brown is also busy exhibiting her work at Harrogate and Glasgow in the run up to Christmas. If you are looking for something different and very special this Christmas, grasp the chance to come and see Shibori and batik techniques used to create an original range of beautiful accessories and paintings.
The Museum also has specially commissioned Christmas cards for sale, depicting Painter's Cottages in Souttergate on a snowy evening and some Christmas 'trees' decorated by children. If you have never been to Hedon Museum before, it is well worth a visit – you will find it signposted from St. Augustine’s Gate, accessed down the alley off Watmough’s Arcade and the Iveson Close car park – and it is open every Wednesday and Saturday between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m., refreshments are always available and admission is free.

Please take the time to complete and return this questionnaire as your views are very important, and as an extra incentive, there will be a prize of £10 awarded for one of the questionnaires drawn out at random. Completed questionnaires can be left at Preston Post Office, the Cock and Bell public house, Alan Jones butcher’s or at Safeway’s customer services desk (which is especially convenient for residents of Preston South.)
