Week beginning February 3rd 2003

Crime Prevention appeal : Hedon and District Crime Prevention Panel are appealing for new members. Anyone living in any of the group of nine villages in the Hedon area will be very welcome to join the panel : all that is needed is a willingness to try to help reduce crime in your community and a desire to help. For further details contact Ann Atkin on 01482 897726 . The Crime Prevention Panel is expanding its work and is currently planning to hold its first Crime Prevention Awards presentation next month.

Fort Paull : correction : Last week, whilst writing about the scheme to provide free passes for Paull residents, I inadvertently misinterpreted Fort Paull's poster and said that the Fort will reopen at Easter. Mr. Rushworth, the Fort's owner, has asked me to point out that the museum exhibitions are open all year round and that it is the re-enactment displays which start again for the summer season at Easter. The season will begin with the Civil War, the displays taking place on Saturday April 19th, Sunday April 20th and Easter Monday April 21st and commencing at 10.30 a.m.

Advance notice : This year the Preston Show will be held on Saturday 19th July. As part of the show there will be a display of vintage cars and motorcycles, and if anyone is interested in bringing along their machines or vehicles to the show, please contact Bessie Guy on 896456. The more the better! At the moment plans are not fully completed, so other displays can be fitted in if needed to add variety to the show. If anyone is interested in helping on the day, has ideas for the show or can bring along anything of interest, just get in touch on the same number.

Spanish Nights in Hedon! The heat and passion of Spain is coming to Hedon in East Yorkshire, with the appearance of 'Primor Flamenco'. They are a touring group of musicians and dancers who have been bringing the exciting sight and sound of flamenco to UK audiences for a number of years. The numbers within the group vary, depending on the size of the venue, but even with the most basic format of singer, dancer and guitarist, they are able to bring to an audience authentic flamenco, accepted as one of the most challenging and complex art forms. Two guitarists and a dancer will be performing in Hedon on Friday, February 7th. . 'Primor Flamenco' are some of this country's finest exponents of flamenco and the audience is guaranteed an interesting and varied evening of virtuoso guitar playing, singing and dancing. Décor with the flavour of Spain, together with a bar serving wine, sangria and tapas during the evening, will evoke holiday memories and promises, in what is sure to be a memorable evening in wintry Hedon. 'Primor Flamenco' is appearing in support of the Mayor's Charity and the Mayor of Hedon, Cllr. Allen Marshall is sure that everyone, both those who know Spain and those who still dream of going, will have a lovely evening. The event is being staged at Alexandra Hall, Hedon at 7-30pm on Friday, February 7th. Tickets cost £7-50, which includes tapas, and are available in advance at the Town Hall, Hedon, 01482-898428 (open Tues, Thurs & Fri. 10am - 4pm) or ring 891050; tables for 4 or more can be booked in advance.
