Hedon Road "Improvements" : Driving round Saltend roundabout continues to be interesting to say the least ….. every journey seems to provide a new learning experience, a new venture into the unknown! After over thirty years of having to take the nearside lane when returning to Paull from Hull, I now discover that I have to take the outside lane in order to negotiate the roundabout correctly. The arrangement of the cones is a wonder to behold, something between modern art and an obstacle course with a dash of the mystery tour thrown in for good measure! But confusion for the motorists aside, the work seems to be progressing steadily and the new flyover is taking shape ready to cross what looks like being the most enormous roundabout. Hopefully, when complete the new junction will ease the congestion at this very busy junction, particularly at peak traffic times, and will eliminate the need for motorists to try to get to the head of the queue from Hedon and points east by nipping through the back roads and speeding through Paull. I, and I'm sure all motorists driving through the area, look forward to the not-too-distant time when we can all drive to and from Hull stress-free and with ease. Mail Mini-bus tokens wanted : Preston Songbirds Out-Of-School Club, which meets at 63 Staithes Road, Preston, are entering the coupon-collecting bonanza and are asking people to donate unwanted mini-bus tokens from the Hull and East Riding editions of the Daily Mail to them. Red Cross Appeal : The staff of the Red Cross shop on St. Augustine's Gate, Hedon, wish to thank all volunteer helpers and customers for their continued support but also to appeal for more - more donations of quality merchandise to sell in their shop and more volunteers to help man it. The shop carries an extensive stock of good-quality used clothing, and has been recently restocked with winter wear for all the family. In addition there is also a selection of books of all kinds, toys, bric-a-brac etc. If anyone has any items they wish to donate for sale, or can offer to help man the shop itself, please contact Julie, the shop manager, on 01482 890668. The British Red Cross are always grateful for donations of clothes, linen, household goods, books, toys etc., and money raised in the shop is used in the local community. Correction : The next "Afternoon Tea with the Mayoress" in aid of the Mayor's Charity fund will be held on Friday November 1st and not on October 29th as previously reported.
