Mr. Arthur Annison : it is with great sadness that I report the death of Arthur Annison, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday July 28th at the age of 80. Mr. Annison was a well-respected member of the community and will be greatly missed. I will write a full obituary after his funeral on August 4th, but I am sure that everyone in Paull will want to join me now in sending our sincere condolences to his widow, Joan, and the rest of his family. Hedon Summer Fayre : although the main summer fairs and garden fetes seem to be over there are still one or two around for you to enjoy : next week there will be a "Summer Fayre" held at Hawthorne House, Ketwell Lane, Hedon, on the afternoon of Saturday August 9th, beginning at 2.30 p.m. Admission will cost just 25p, and there will be all the usual attractions - a Tombola and a raffle, a white elephant stall, various sideshows and games, etc. D-Tec meeting report : this makes interesting reading and if you have internet access, can be found in full at http://www.d-tec.org/News/index.htm, but to summarise for those who don't : with regard to the annual digital photography competition and in consultation with the Hedon Museum Exhibitions Manager it has been decided that the exhibits would look better if they were framed and arrangements have been made to buy 100 suitable frames. The photographs would be on display at the museum for one month and the museum would have use of the frames at other times of the year. The committee also discussed the ongoing problem of broadband access (or lack of it!) in Holderness, and were pleased to note that the latest government report supports all D-Tec has been asking for in terms of broadband accessibility in Holderness and that there are indications that government agencies are intensifying their efforts to remove the digital divide between town and country. Farewell to popular Minister : Hedon Methodist Church was quite literally packed out last Sunday when congregations from many churches in and around Hedon and Hull gathered to say goodbye to their minister, Rev. Ray Coates, who together with his wife and family is moving on to a new ministry in Tadcaster. The service was relayed by a video link to the church hall for those unable to be accommodated in the main church and it is an indication of just how sorry everyone will be to see him go, in that the church hall was also full!
