Week beginning June 9th 2003

Trefoil Guild Diamond Jubilee : 2003 is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Trefoil Guild, which is the non-uniformed section of Girlguiding UK, and to celebrate this occasion members of the Holderness branch of the Trefoil Guild have put up a display in the showcase at the entrance to Hedon Public Library. The popular view of the Trefoil Guild is that it is an organisation for retired Guide leaders, but this is far from true : the Guild is in fact open to anyone over the age of 18 who has ever made, or is willing to make, the Guide or Scout Promise. The aims of the Trefoil Guild are threefold : to keep alive amongst its members the spirit of the Guide and Scout Promises and Laws, to carry that spirit through into the communities in which they live and work, and to give practical, moral and financial support to Guiding and Scouting.

Lions say "Thanks!" Holderness Lions would like to thank all those who have supported them recently. The first occasion was at a Coffee Morning in Preston on the 25th May - the weather stayed fine and all who attended were kept well supplied with coffee and scones and there were some very good raffle prizes on offer. The second event was the May Fayre held on the 31st May in the Alison Hall, Hedon. There was a steady trickle of visitors through the doors and the Tombola proved a popular attraction. Again refreshments were available. Thanks go to all the stall holders for taking time to bring their wares to this Lions event. If anyone out there who wishes to know what The Lions, do please get in touch with Lion Eileen telephone 01482 890197 or Lion Janet telephone 01482 897518 and they will be delighted to talk to you.

All proceeds will be divided between overseas aid and the church funds.
