Week beginning November 10th 2003

Bonfire Apology : last week I reported that a big family bonfire and firework display would be held at Fort Paull but unfortunately this was cancelled at the last minute, on the morning of November 5th, after my column had been published. I have been asked to stress that this cancellation was nothing to do with Paull School, for whom funds were being raised, nor Paull Post Office, who were selling tickets, but it had to be cancelled by the organizer because of problems with the proposed venue. Refunds are of course available on production of your ticket(s) and once again, I apologise for the disappointment.

Buy your Christmas presents now! Holderness Rangers are hosting a ‘Virgin Vie’ party on Tuesday November 11th in Paull Village Hall (opposite the lighthouse) starting at 6.30 p.m. Virgin Vie is a high quality range of cosmetics, toiletries and perfumes etc. and this evening will provide demonstrations and opportunities to try before you buy, with lots of special Christmas offers. There will also be a raffle and a quiz (with prizes, of course) and refreshments will be served during the evening. Everyone is very welcome to attend, and all proceeds are for Holderness Rangers Guides’ unit funds.

Paull Church Bazaar : St. Andrews’ Church, Paull, are holding their annual Christmas Bazaar on Thursday November 13th in the Village Hall. The bazaar will be formally opened at 6.30 p.m. by the Vicar and there will be all the usual Bazaar stalls – Christmas crafts, soft toys, bric-a-brac etc., and as always the cake stall will be the one to visit, so come early before the cakes are all sold!

Hedon PCC Meeting : There will be a meeting of the Hedon Parochial Church council in the Church Room, Hedon, at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday 12th November.

Concert tickets on sale : Tickets are now on sale for the concert by the Humberside Police Band in Hedon’s Alexandra Hall on Sunday 23rd November, commencing at 2.00 p.m. The concert is being held as a tribute to the late Mary Carr, for all the dedicated hours she gave voluntarily to the community. Tickets cost £2.50, which includes refreshments, and are available from ‘Nutmegs’ in the Market Place or by phoning 01482 896482 or 01482 899478.
