Week beginning October 11th 2004

Go wild at Paull Holme Strays! As promised, here are further details of the free “family fun day” to be held on Saturday October 30th between 1.00 and 4.00 p.m. in Paull Village Hall. Events will include “Mud Magic” when you can find out what lies beneath the Humber mud with the RSPB Phoenix Group (this activity is indoors but may be messy, so anyone wishing to take part is advised to wear old clothes); “Wild Crafts” – try your hand at masks, flappers, badges, face painting and more with the Phoenix Group and local artist Wayne Wolton, or you can join in a Puppet Making and Show session to make puppets and put on a show with the RSPB’s Lifelong Learning Officer Emma Boor.
There will also be an opportunity to walk the Paull Holme Strays Discovery Trail and explore the Environment Agency’s newly created site with members of RSPB staff and the Humber Phoenix Group. Guided walks will leave the village hall at 1.30 p.m. and 2.45 p.m., a minibus is available to transport visitors to the site.
There will be several displays in the village hall : Paull Primary School have been working to design a display featuring the birds and wildlife of Paull Holme Strays, so do come along and find out about the birds and butterflies they have seen and the results of their plant and wildlife surveys. If you want to know what is going on and what to see in the rest of the Humber area, Conservation Officer Nicola Melville will be on hand to answer your questions about Humber wildlife.
If you have any photos of wildlife on the Humber, or maybe some old photographs of Paull Holme Strays before the reserve was developed, please bring them along to the village Hall where Holderness Rangers will be collecting your images and stories on the day, to incorporate into a website to be developed this winter. Photos will be scanned straight away and returned immediately.

Holderness Lions : there will be another evening of the popular “Farmers’ Bingo” on Wednesday October 13th at The Haven Arms, Hedon. ‘Eyes down’ will be at 8.00 p.m., and the cost will be £1.50 for two books with ten games per book which is very good value for money. As usual the prizes for each game will be good quality pork. The Lions need your support to make the night a fun filled one, so please give it a try. Further details about this event or anything to do with the Lions are available from Lion Eileen on 01482 890197.
