Watch the birdie! Why did our grandparents always look miserable for the photographer? Come along and find out! All camera buffs will be keen to see the new exhibition at Hedon Museum, where cameras spanning almost the last 100 years have been loaned for display in the Upstairs Gallery. Colin Brammer, Greenprint, Hedon and John Feetham have loaned still cameras, many with their original cases and instruction booklets, from their collections. Also on show and of great interest in these video days are early movie cameras, one looking like a small sewing machine! Some of these are from the Museum’s own collection whereas others have been lent by Museum members. To accompany the exhibition, early photographs from the Museum archive have been put on show. Visitors will be able to compare and contrast! The Museum, staffed by volunteers, is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., and refreshments are available. If you are interested in helping at the Museum or have ideas for what you would like to see, why not drop in and talk to any member of staff - you will be made very welcome. Preston Songbirds spread their wings : The “Preston Songbirds” is an existing childcare provider (registered childminder and out of school club) which, due to public demand, is soon to be opening a new nursery down Staithes Road in Preston, near BP. They have had already had an official Ofsted inspection and hope to open for business on Monday July 14th. The nursery offers day care from three months to five years, and an after-school “Kids Club” for four to eleven year olds. Record-breaking garden party : St. Augustine's church garden party committee have asked me to pass on their thanks to everyone who helped make the recent garden party such a success. They tell me they had a wonderful day, with a great crowd of people attending, and raised the magnificent sum of £2,051.00 - the most raised by this annual event so far. In the words of the committee, “We would like to say a big thank you to all the wonderful people who made this possible.” Church Services for Sunday July 20th 2003 : |
