Carol singers at Preston : Preston Methodist Church Carol Singers and their friends added to the Christmas feeling already present in the Sandhill Garden Centre, Preston, by singing there to entertain customers and staff on Sunday afternoon. is the last Sunday before Christmas) : Paull Sea Anglers please read on…… I don't like to gripe at this time of the year when everyone is getting into a holiday mood, but I really feel something ought to be said: don't get me wrong, the vast majority of the men who come to Paull to fish are lovely, be they serious competitive anglers or weekend fishermen intent on teaching worms to swim, but a small minority are really messy devils AND decidedly environmentally-unfriendly into the bargain. On my daily walks along the river front I am continually tidying up after them. My dogs adore rolling in the nasty, smelly, fishy bait wrappings they leave strewn around, the hedgerows have festive Christmas decorations in the form of wind-blown plastic bags (also nasty, smelly and fishy), and yards and yards of abandoned day-glo nylon line coiled everywhere I step may LOOK Christmassy, but the birds don't think much of it, and neither do I as I gather it to put into one of the many bins conveniently placed around. PLEASE, gentlemen, think of those of us who live here, and the poor wildlife to which it is a real threat, and throw your rubbish in the bins or better still, take it home with you! |
