Week beginning October 21st 2002

Mr. Harold Pickering : it is with great sadness that I report the death of Harold Pickering, who passed away peacefully on Friday 11th October in Castle Hill Hospital at the age of 87. I have known Harold for as long as I have lived in Paull and my children, born and raised in Paull, always knew him as "Uncle Harold." I will write a full obituary after his funeral on October 18th, but I am sure that everyone in Paull will want to join me now in sending our sincere condolences to his widow, Joyce, and the rest of his family.

Have your say : A public participation meeting is being held on Thursday October 24th between 7 and 7.30 p.m. in Hedon Town Hall, when members of the public are invited to bring relevant matters regarding the town before the members of the Town Council for discussion. The meeting will be chaired by the Mayor, Councillor Allen Marshall.

Coffee Morning in Hedon : the Hedon Ladies' Lifeboat Guild invite everyone to join them for morning coffee on Tuesday 29th October in the Town Hall, St. Augustine's Gate, Hedon, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. The cost of admission is £1, and there will also be a raffle : all proceeds will go towards the saving of life at sea.

Free lessons : struggling to become Internet literate? Then start by learning how to send E-mail messages. Lessons are available at the computer suite in Hedon Museum, free of charge. The museum is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and lessons are available on request.

Church socials : the Excel Club meets every second Tuesday at Hedon Catholic Church presbytery on Baxtergate, starting with lunch at 1.30p.m. and followed by a meeting - all are welcome to attend. Regular Meetings : Hedon Mother's Union meets regularly, every fourth Thursday at 2 p.m., in the Church rooms on Magdalen Gate, the entrance to which is at the back of the car park opposite Nippers' Nursery.

Hedon Races - reminder : don't miss the fun at the Race Night at the Haven Arms, Sheriff Highway, Hedon, on Friday October 25th starting at 8 p.m. All money raised is for the Friends of Albemarle Fund. Tickets from Albemarle, Baxtergate, or phone 01482 896727.

Church Services for Sunday October 27th :
The continued absence of a vicar for Hedon and Paull means that church services for these two parishes are subject to late alteration at the moment, but hopefully a replacement for Rev. Hargreave will be appointed soon and things can get back to normal. Please consult church noticeboards for any changes. At the time of going to press…
