Calling all poets …… October 9th 2003 is National Poetry Day (according to my research on the Internet) and I see that entry to the Poetry Society's competition for a "Poem For Britain" is already closed. Local budding poets, however, have no need to worry - they can still enter the East Riding's poetry competition, which is being run in conjunction with the East Riding Literary Festival. The 6th Annual Competition is open to poets of all ages, with a £50 prize for the winner of each age-group : 12 years and under, 13 to 18 years, and over 18 years of age, and is for an original poem of not more than twenty lines. All winning entries and those awarded "highly commended" in their category will also be published in an anthology. Entry forms are available from all East Riding libraries, but if your local branch has run out of forms (as mine had when I called in to get one) they assure me that all you have to do is take your poem to your library and hand it in there and they will see to the rest for you. The closing date for entries is August 30th, so it is time to summon the Muse and get writing! "New To You" sale in Hedon : St Augustine's Church, Hedon are again holding their Summer Sale in the Church Room in Magdalen Gate in aid of Church running costs.
