Week beginning April 22nd 2002

At the Paull Village Hall AGM thanks were expressed to the outgoing committee for all their hard work over the past year, and particular mention was made of the new caretaker, Mrs. Jackie Conman who, ably assisted by her husband Brian, has made such a difference to the Village Hall with many delightful personal and homely touches. Special thanks also went to Jenny and Martin Gray of Paull Post Office for their help in staging special fundraising events. The Chairman, Mrs. Barbara Bonning, was re-elected for a further term of office, as were the Vice-chairman, Mrs. Chris Wicks, and the Secretary, Mrs. Diana Edmondson. The new Parish Council representative (who also happens to be your local correspondent!) was also welcomed onto the committee.

The Paull Village Hall Trust committee have now started making plans for the village's Jubilee celebrations later this year. They have decided to hold a Jubilee Party in two halves - the first will be an "old-fashioned children's party" for children from the village aged between 4 and 12 years, and a "tea party and sing-along" for the adults - the first party to take place in the Village Hall between 3 and 5 pm and the second, adults session, from 6 until 8, both on the actual anniversary of the Coronation, June 2nd. Naturally, advance warning of precise numbers to be expected for both parties is essential, so leaflets will shortly be distributed to every home in the village and residents are asked to fill them in and return them as instructed on the form.

Hedon branch of the Holderness Volunteer Centre, with its office in Hedon's Market Place, is an excellent organisation which exists to coordinate, and act as a "clearing house" for, the many voluntary groups in the area. People seeking to offer their help to one of these organisations can go to the centre to see who is looking for help, and similarly, organisations needing volunteers can advertise their needs as well as services offered in the Centre. Also on offer are various services for voluntary and community groups, the most popular being photocopying at cost price. Now, however, the Volunteer Centre itself is in need of volunteers! People are needed to help man the centre and volunteers are asked for just three hours of their time per week to work a single session in the office; full training will be given. If you think you can help out, or would like further details, the Volunteer Centre can be contacted on (01482) 891119, or just drop into the office between 10am and 4pm from Monday to Friday when there will be someone available to discuss it with you.

Hedon Parochial Council's annual general meeting is to be held on Wednesday April 24th in Hedon Town Hall at 7.30pm, following the service of Said Communion in St. Augustine's Church at 7pm. All interested parishioners are invited to this meeting.

South Holderness Adult Education Centre, based at South Holderness School on Station Road, Preston, still has places available on many of its courses. In particular the Tuesday morning aerobics and keep fit class, which is held in the Alexandra Hall, Hedon from 9.30 - 11am, has places and also offers a crèche for pre-school children. For further details of this and other adult education classes, please contact the Centre on (01482) 897534 any weekday morning or Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening.

Paull Fort is staging a Golden Jubilee car rally. This will take place at the Fort, off Battery Road, Thorngumbald Road, Paull, on Sunday April 28th and will feature a large collection vintage and classic cars.
