The meeting will be chaired by the Mayor, Councillor Ann Suggitt. Fun and games at Salt End roundabout? Don’t say I didn’t warn you …. The new flyover at Salt End is at last open to traffic, supposedly to speed the flow of traffic through this busy junction. Theoretically, traffic going straight on into Hull from Hedon and the villages beyond can avoid the roundabout completely and only the Paull, Preston and Salt End traffic needs to use the roundabout. Why, then, did it take over half an hour to get out of Paull Road on Tuesday morning? I’ll tell you why : having been caught up in the traffic chaos on Monday morning, many drivers travelling in to Hull from the Hedon direction decided to try to out-flank the traffic queues over the flyover by taking the left-hand slip road which is intended for traffic going to Paull and Salt End and instead of turning left, going straight on to rejoin the traffic queue further up! As they then had to filter in to the flow of traffic already on the flyover, the ensuing tailback blocked the roundabout, so everything ground to a halt. So much for the new faster access road to Hull. Let’s hope it’s just teething troubles and that common sense will eventually prevail! Go Wild at Paull : the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds are marking the official opening of the Paull Holme Strays with a FREE family fun afternoon on Saturday October 25th from 1.00 pm. until 4.00 p.m. The event will be centred on Paull Village Hall (opposite the lighthouse) and offers “fun with mud,” games and activities, displays and guided walks with the opportunity to watch the birds with telescopes and binoculars. Experts will be on hand to answer your questions on the estuary wildlife and the coastal realignment scheme, and refreshments will be available. New Port Chaplain : the Rev. David Whateley, currently resident in Goole, is moving to Hedon shortly and is to be licensed as the Missions To Seamen’s new Humber Port Chaplain at St. Augustine’s Church, Hedon, on Thursday October 23rd at 7.30 p.m. The Bishop of Hull will be conducting the service and everyone is invited to come along to the church to celebrate this new Ministry.
