Week beginning March 22nd 2004

A miniature world on show at Hedon Museum : a full market and a complete 1950's hardware shop are just some of the exhibits on show at Hedon Museum from this Saturday. The 'Fantasia' Dolls House Club are displaying their wonderful miniature world of scenes and dolls until April 14th in the Upstairs Gallery. There are many 'room corners' created to reflect different eras and visitors can enjoy identifying dolls dressed as specific people. The models are created to scale and finished down to tiniest detail and members of the Club will be on hand to talk about their work.
The Museum is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. and admission is free, so do go along and enjoy a peep into the past – they assure me that they have a magnifying glass, but I'm taking my specs just in case!

Paull and the Beverley – correction : last week’s item about the Blackburn Beverley aircraft which is to be re-homed at Fort Paull prompted a couple of phone calls which filled in some of the details of the plane’s history. So, to put the record straight : the aircraft landed at Paull in 1974 just as I described (as I said, I was there at the time!) but although it was bought with the intention of converting it into a bar and clubhouse, the aero club’s plans were thwarted from the outset when they realised that they would have to sell a set number of barrels of beer! The contract therefore fell through and the plane was never actually converted in the way intended.

Chrysanthemum Society AGM in Hedon : (and just to show off because I can spell “chrysanthemum” I’m going to say it again : ) the Hedon and District Chrysanthemum Society are holding their AGM on Wednesday March 24th in the Methodist Hall, Church Lane, Hedon, commencing at 8.00 p.m. All members are invited to attend.

Local Artists on display : I dropped into Hedon Town Hall to have a look round the exhibition being put on there by the Wyvern Arts Group this week, and although by the time this reaches print the exhibition will have finished, I thought I’d just say how much I enjoyed it. There was a very varied selection of exhibits, including paintings, photographs, sculpture, textiles and pottery, which made for interesting viewing. Although the exhibition itself has moved on, the Group has a website – http://www.wyvernarts.com - on which you can see many of their creations and also find out when and where their next exhibition is.
