Last call for Holderness Digital Photographers : Please note that all entries for this year's Digital Photographic Competition should be delivered to Hedon Museum by 4.00 p.m. on Wednesday 24th September. Those who have difficulty making a delivery or meeting the closing time should contact Paul Scudamore on 01482 896 171 to make alternative arrangements or see D-Tec's web pages at http://www.d-tec.org for more information. Judging will take place at Hedon Museum on Saturday 27th September and there will be a prize giving ceremony at approximately noon that day. Entries will be displayed in The Gallery of the museum throughout the following month. There is an open invitation to attend the prize giving and the organisers and judges particularly look forward to seeing all the competitors and their friends who care to attend. During the following month the museum will be open for public viewing on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and at other times by arrangement. This year's exhibition shows promise of being a particularly good demonstration of the recent advances made in digital imagery as users become more familiar with processing their efforts. The organisers are particularly grateful to the sponsors of this competition and their names will be on display in the museum. Wildlife Award for Paull Church : The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Diocese of York run the Yorkshire Living Churchyard Project annually, searching for churchyards and burial grounds managed in ways sympathetic to wildlife. At the award ceremony held at Bishopthorpe Palace last week the churchyard at St. Andrew's Paull received joint first prize in the rural category. When I reported this competition last year, I wrote that in the first year of the competition (2001) Paull was awarded a Commended certificate and in 2002 was Highly Commended, and finished my report with "progress is obviously being made : who knows what they will do next year?" So congratulations to all concerned!! You did it!! Aerobics Class with a Crèche : Would you like to join an aerobics class and have someone look after your young children in a safe and secure environment? The new term's aerobics class held in Hedon can offer just this. Classes start on Tuesday 23rd September and will be held every Tuesday in the Alexandra Hall, from 9.30 a.m. until 11.00 a.m., making it ideal for those with children at school as well. Everyone is welcome, and concessions are available for those eligible. For further details contact the South Holderness Adult Education department on 01482 897534. Friendship Group meeting : the Holderness Friendship Group meets every first Monday in the month at the Queen's Head, St. Augustine's Gate, Hedon, at 11.30 a.m. They invite anyone to come along and join them for an informal get-together and would be delighted to see you. The group's activities include tea/coffee mornings, theatre trips, outings, fundraising events and meals. Hedon M.U. Meeting : The Hedon branch of the Mother's Union have a meeting planned for Thursday September 25th when the speaker will be Robina Herrington, who will speak on "A working world cruise." The meeting will take place in the Church Room, Magdalen Gate, Hedon (entrance at the back of the Magdalen Lane car park) starting at 2.00 p.m. Members of the M.U. are reminded that £5 is now due for "Home and Family." Let's bring the animal out in you … the Hedon Red Cross shop will be launching their "Winter Collection" on Monday September 29th when their new collection of winter stock goes on sale. I will give you a fuller report, hopefully with pictures, next week, but be sure to get in there early - it promises to be well worth a visit! The shop is open Monday-Saturday from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., and is halfway down St. Augustine's Gate (between the pet shop and Age Concern.) First of the season? You know how the national dailies seem to get involved in competing for who has heard the first cuckoo of spring? Well, I'm laying claim to the first firework of autumn…. Some bright spark (no pun intended) saw fit to let off some rather large and noisy fireworks on Paull playing field, well within earshot of my house and others, at the unearthly hour of 4.00 a.m. (yes, I do mean four in the morning!) on Sunday September 14th….. that's 51 days in advance of November 5th. Words fail me (almost) - so can I also be the first to wish you Merry Christmas? Church Services for Sunday September 28th |
