A Wonderful Afternoon : This week sees a riot of colour and imagination go on display at Hedon Museum. A 'Painting Afternoon' was organised recently at Hedon County Primary School in Ketwell Lane. Various themes were the inspiration for the paintings, from 'Landscape' to ' The Story of Ant and Dove'. Small, large and very large! - whilst there is not room to display the work of every pupil, nevertheless there are so many lovely paintings, it was decided to use every available space to display them. They are on show not just in the Upstairs Gallery but all over the Museum! 'It was a wonderful afternoon!' said the organiser, Mrs Hunter. 'Every child in every class had a lovely creative experience - the whole school was painting at once!' The exhibition opens this week and runs till early September, and with school holidays here, children, their friends and family have chance to see them and explore the Museum. As well as paintings, the exhibition of still and movie cameras is still showing, together with 'hands-on' opportunities in the 'Hedon Room'. Watch out too, for a new display coming, of rare and beautiful archaeological treasures found in the vicinity of Hedon. If you and your family haven't found the museum yet, go from Iveson Close car park towards Watmough's Arcade, then look for the blue 'A' display boards which guide you to Blue Ball Entry by the 'Nail Salon'. The Museum is open every Wednesday and Saturday, from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. Refreshments are available and admission is free. Hedon In Bloom : Hedon Open Gardens weekend is being held this year on Saturday August 2nd and Sunday August 3rd. There will be twenty-four gardens opening to visitors, all in Hedon, and admission is by programme at a cost of £2 (accompanied children free), available now from Bamfords and Calceus (the shoe repairer's) both in St. Augustine's Gate, and Greenprint in the Market Place. It will also be possible to pay on the day at any of the participating gardens, the majority of which will be clearly marked with balloons at the gate. Refreshments will be available at many of the gardens, and all proceeds will go to St. Augustine's, Hedon's parish church. St. Andrew's Church, Paull : In a recent storm the louvres in the tower were blown in. Investigations into the damage have shown that repairs are needed to both the louvres and the roof tiles to keep out the rain and birds. Regretfully years of bird infestation have resulted in a problem that needs removing - piles of droppings! The cost of removing these droppings is estimated to be £3,000, as this has to be undertaken with environmental and health safeguards in place. The work to repair the tower and keep out the birds in future will cost a further £1,500 so financial support of St Andrews is of major importance. No doubt there will be a number of fund-raising schemes to help cover the costs, and any donations will be warmly welcomed by the vicar, church wardens, and congregation.
