Please make sure they are in before April 3rd so that they can be distributed in time for Easter.

Footpath closure in Paull : regular readers of this column will no doubt recall that I wrote about the closure of the riverside footpath in Paull a few weeks ago, and that a temporary closure order had been issued for the area immediately adjacent to and including the old slipway. This situation has now changed drastically and a new closure order has been issued covering the whole of the footpath between the Old Coastguard Station and the car park at High Paull (beyond the playing field.) The reason for this extension of the area lies in the storms of last weekend : along with the on-shore gale force winds came 9 metre-plus spring tides and as those of us who live in Paull know only too well, that combination usually spells trouble. The violence of the waves hitting the sea wall have caused a large breach in the face of the wall near Anson Villas and even more seriously, undermined the actual footpath and lifted then dropped it again, breaking the thick concrete into huge slabs and leaving them suspended over a void and the whole footpath highly dangerous in that area.
The temporary closure order is likely to be renewed and extended to six months or until the path and sea wall are repaired. An alternative route is available and doesn’t mean a major detour : if walking from the village, simply bear left at the end of the “new” sea wall and before the steps and follow the track behind Anson Villas to reach the back of the playing field through one or other of the two gateways in the fence – it’s not far and you won’t get lost as it’s quite clear. Coming from the other end, the track is reached from the back right-hand corner of the field – again, it’s easy to see the gateway.
