June 7th - 10th is a time of special celebration as Hedon Methodist Friendship Circle celebrates its 40th Anniversary. The group began life as the Young Wives but became the Friendship Circle some years ago. On Friday 7th there will be an anniversary meal for past and present members followed on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday by a Flower Festival on the theme of Anniversaries. The displays will be open for viewing by the public on Saturday 8th June from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m, on Sunday 9th from 12 noon - 4 p.m. and on Monday 10th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Admission will cost £1 and refreshments will be available. On the Sunday at 10.45a.m. worship will be led by Mrs. Ivy Rowe, a founder member of the group and the evening service at 6.30p.m. will be a Songs of Praise lead by Rev. Robyn Thompson. Everyone is welcome to join us in what promises to be a very special weekend. Further information can be obtained by ringing 01482 - 899554.

The outgoing Mayor of Hedon, Councillor Mrs. Ann Suggit, made a special visit to Hedon Red Cross to present a plaque commemorating the high level of service the Hedon Red Cross has given to the Town Council and residents of the ancient town of Hedon. Councillor Mrs. Suggit wanted to recognise particularly the hard work and commitment of the Hedon Red Cross in this Golden Jubilee Year. Centre Organiser Anita Hall accepted the plaque on behalf of the members and said she was very proud to do so. She also said that the Hedon Red Cross had always played a major part in the life of the community and would continue to do so. The plaque is to be placed in a prominent position at the Centre to enable others to share our pride in being awarded this honour.

Hedon Catholic Church Garden Party will be held on June 8th in the church gardens, Baxtergate. The Garden Party will be officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Hedon, Cllr & Mrs. Allen, at 2pm. This is a day for all the family, and will include teas, competitions, a prize draw, Tombola, various games, Punch and Judy, a children's magician and dance demos, and everyone is welcome. Admission for adults is only 35p, and accompanied children are free. All proceeds from the day will go to the Church Repair Fund.

Hedon Women's Institute meets again on June 10th at 7.30 in the Allison Hall, St. Augustine's Gate. The topic for this week's talk is "Musical Humour" and the competition is for "A Music Box."

The campaign to keep Paull School open continues. Villagers have united in the fight to save their village school - a petition has been organised and windows on every street are displaying "Save our School" posters. The school's website (http://www.paullprimaryschool.freeservers.com) has been swiftly updated to report on the crisis, and the latest development is for the county councillors to ask the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to call a public meeting to discuss the situation.
